FR + Leather Kit

Welder Uniforms in Las Vegas — NFPA 2112 base, leather over, branded FR-safe.

The full layered system — FR shirts, FR pants, welding jackets, leather sleeves, gloves, helmets. Embroidered with Nomex thread that holds the FR rating.

The Layered System

A welder uniform isn't one shirt — it's a kit.

FR base layer

NFPA 2112-certified FR shirts and pants — Bulwark Excel-FR ComforTouch, Carhartt FR Force, Lapco, Tyndale. Dual NFPA 70E + 2112 ratings on the most-specified picks.

Leather over-layer

Welding jackets and split-cowhide sleeves from Black Stallion and Lincoln Electric. Worn over the FR base for direct slag and spatter.

Hands and head

Welding gloves (TIG / MIG / stick), welding helmets with auto-darkening lenses, and FR balaclavas or hoods. Branded the same as the rest of the kit.

Branding

Nomex (aramid) thread embroidery on every FR garment — keeps the certification valid. Polyester thread melts and voids the rating; we don't use it on FR.

Standards

The standards your welders need to meet.

Federal floor + industry standard + project-specific certifications. We spec garments to the strictest applicable.

Standard Covers
NFPA 2112 Flash-fire protection (certified)
NFPA 70E Arc-rated electrical PPE
AWS Z49.1 Welding industry safety standard
OSHA 1910.252 Federal welding-cutting-brazing rule

Each Layer

The full kit, one piece at a time.

FR shirt

Bulwark Excel-FR ComforTouch SLU2 (7 oz, dual NFPA 70E + 2112) is the most-specified base shirt for Vegas welding crews. Carhartt FR Force is the next tier.

FR pants

Bulwark FR work pants or Carhartt FR Force jeans. Same NFPA 2112 rating as the shirt — the pants matter as much as the top.

Welding jacket

Heavy split-cowhide. Black Stallion and Lincoln Electric are the standard. For high-amperage stick / MIG above 200A, jacket goes on over the FR.

Sleeves

Leather welding sleeves for lighter-duty work where a full jacket is too hot. Standard for summer work in Vegas welding shops.

Gloves

Goatskin TIG gloves for fine work, cowhide MIG gloves for general fab, heavy elk-skin stick gloves for high-heat.

Helmet + hood

Auto-darkening helmet (Miller, Lincoln) + FR balaclava or beanie under it. Branded with company logo on the helmet shell using approved methods.

The Buyer's Read

Welder uniforms for Vegas welding shops and contractors.

A welder uniform is a layered protection system, not a single garment. The base layer — FR-rated shirt and pants — handles flash fire and arc events. The over-layer — leather jacket or sleeves — handles direct slag, spatter, and high-amperage stick work where the FR base alone isn't designed to deflect. Together they meet the requirements of OSHA 1910.252 and AWS Z49.1, the two standards that define welder PPE in the U.S.

For Vegas welders, the base shirt question usually comes down to NFPA 2112 versus heavy FR cotton. NFPA 2112 is the certified standard for flash-fire protection — the conservative spec for any shop bidding on oil/gas, refining, process, or safety-driven commercial contracts. Bulwark Excel-FR ComforTouch SLU2 is the most-specified pick for Vegas crews because it carries the dual NFPA 70E and NFPA 2112 rating in a 7 oz weight that breathes in summer heat. Carhartt FR Force is the next tier. For general fab and lighter-duty welding under AWS Z49.1, heavy FR cotton from Carhartt FR or Lapco is acceptable.

The leather decision is about heat input. Stick and high-amperage MIG (above 200A) generate enough slag and spatter that the FR shirt — designed to resist ignition, not deflect molten metal — needs a leather over-layer to handle the direct hit. Black Stallion and Lincoln Electric jackets are the standard; leather sleeves are a common compromise for summer work where a full jacket runs too hot. TIG on thin material often runs FR-only.

Decoration is the part most shops get wrong. Standard polyester embroidery thread melts and drips on FR garments — a worse outcome than not decorating at all. We use Nomex (aramid) thread on every Bulwark, Carhartt FR, and Lapco garment we decorate, and we document the thread spec on the certification sheet that ships with every order. This is the document your safety officer needs in the binder when an inspector arrives.

FAQ

Welder uniform questions, answered.

Do welders need flame-resistant clothing?

Yes. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.252 and AWS Z49.1 both require flame-resistant clothing for welding, cutting, and brazing. The base shirt and pants must be FR-rated — typically NFPA 2112-certified or recognized FR cotton. A leather jacket alone is not enough; the underlayer ignites if a leather seam fails.

NFPA 2112 vs FR cotton — what should a welder wear?

NFPA 2112 is the certified standard for flash-fire protection and is the conservative pick for any welding shop with safety-driven contracts. Heavy FR cotton (Carhartt FR, Bulwark Excel-FR) is acceptable under AWS Z49.1 for general welding. For oil/gas, refining, and process work, NFPA 2112 is required.

What FR shirt brands hold up for Vegas welders?

Bulwark Excel-FR ComforTouch SLU2 is the most-specified base shirt for Vegas welding and electrical crews — dual NFPA 70E + NFPA 2112 rating, 7 oz weight, breathes in summer heat. Carhartt FR Force is the next tier. Lapco and Tyndale also produce solid FR options at different price points.

Do I need a welding jacket if I'm wearing FR?

For most stick, MIG, and TIG welding above 200A, yes. The leather jacket or sleeves protect against direct slag and spatter that an FR shirt resists but isn't designed to deflect. Heavy split-cowhide jackets from Black Stallion or Lincoln Electric are the standard. For light-duty TIG on thin material, FR alone is often enough.

Can welder uniforms be embroidered without losing the FR rating?

Yes — with Nomex (aramid) thread, applied by an FR-aware shop. Standard polyester embroidery thread melts and drips, which is worse than printing. NFPA 2112 garments retain certification when decorated with Nomex thread. Plastisol screen printing on FR is generally not approved by garment manufacturers.

Are uniform rental services worth it for a welding shop?

Sometimes. Cintas and UniFirst rent FR uniforms with weekly laundry and replacement programs — useful for shops with 30+ welders and high turnover. The downside: rental garments are shared, sized loosely, and the FR rating depends on the rental shop's laundering protocol. Owned-uniform programs give crews better-fitting gear and more brand control.
